Dear 8th Grade Parents / Guardians: 

We’re so excited to celebrate your 8th grader as they wrap up their middle school journey!  You will find information relating to our 8th Grade Promotion and Activities below.  Please read through and be sure to complete the following items by Friday, May 23, 2025:

  • Great America Permission Slip
  • Celebration Dance Permission Slip
  • Celebration Dance Behaviour Contract
  • Promotion & Activities Payment of $20 per student

The $20 contribution per student will help partially cover the promotion & activities cost. BIS and the PTA will cover the rest. You can submit online payment below or drop off cash/check at BIS office (checks payable to “BIS PTA”). Additional donations are welcome. Costs covered include:

  • Celebration Dance
  • Great America Field Trip (tickets, lunch, transportation)
  • Promotion Ceremony (decor, water, chair rentals)
  • Class of 2025 T-Shirt
  • Others: Legacy Class Gift, Popsicles, 8th Grade Breakfast

 

Directions so that your student can leave early on Promotion Day. Call the school before [June 10] to have your child leave early from school on Promotion Day.  The office number is (650) 259-3830.  This provides the school with your permission for the administration and teachers to release your child.  We will dismiss them at one of the following times that you must choose in advance.  Starting at 10:00 am, we will have 15 minute increments to release your child.  

 

We’re proud of our students and all they’ve achieved! While this is a special moment, we encourage families to celebrate with perspective and save the big parties for future milestones. Here's to many more proud moments ahead!

8TH GRADE PROMOTION & ACTIVITIES

 

CELEBRATION DANCE 

Date: Saturday, June 7, 2025

Time: 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Place: Burlingame Parks and Recreation Center

 

PICK-UP AFTER THE DANCE: 

The Rec Center will close at 9:00 p.m. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD. 

*SCHOOL BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS NOT FOLLOWED AT THE CELEBRATION COULD RESULT IN STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING THE GREAT AMERICA FIELD TRIP. 

Kindly leave all valuables at home!

 

GREAT AMERICA FIELD TRIP

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025 [Note: date change from previous PTA communications]

Time: 8:50 am - 3:45 pm (Buses depart for Great America by 9:00 a.m. and depart from Great America at 3:00 pm

Food: Outside food and beverages, including water, are not allowed into Great America. 

Money: Admission into the park, transportation and lunch are included in the Promotion and Activities fee. (please note that students cannot use their passes to get into the park as we got a package deal)

Chaperones: We are in need of 15 parent chaperones this year. Please sign up here and make sure you have completed fingerprinting requirements to volunteer. Parent chaperone tickets will be covered by PTA.

PROMOTION CEREMONY 

Date: Thursday, June 12, 2025 

Time: 2:00 pm 

Place: BIS Field

Guests: 6 spots are for each family.  Seating will be provided on the field and bleachers, but reserved seating is not allowed. On-campus parking is only for Staff and Handicap accessible permits (above the field). Please utilize street parking or walk.

Attire: When considering attire, please remember it is usually windy. As the ceremony will be held on  our turf field, we ask that high-heel stilettos not be worn. They are not safe and can damage the field.

  1. Sign the “Celebration Dance Behavior Contract”
  2. Submit the “Great America” Permission Slip
  3. Submit the “Celebration Dance” Permission Slip
  4. Make a $20 online payment below or give cash / check payable to “BIS PTA” to the BIS front office.  
  5. Call BIS Main Office (if needed) to provide the school with permission and an Early Release time for Promotion Day, Thursday June 12.  The directions are above in Greg’s letter.  
  6. If your child will not be attending promotion or other activity, please inform the attendance office at BISAttendance@burlingameschools.org.
  7. Optional: Order graduation lawn signs here

 

Reminder PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS (for Great America and Celebration Dance)

Each student and family signed these requirements from March 21, 2024: 

  • Trimester Three 2.0 GPA or higher by June 4, 2025, at 3:10 pm (no exceptions)
  • Daily on-time attendance to school and class periods 
  • No suspensions and/or two or more Saturday Schools

[April 16]

Subject:  8th grade yearbook farewells due today

 

8th Grade Yearbook Farewell Ads: Eighth grade families, today is the last day to purchase a special BIS message to include in the yearbook for your 8th grader. Farewells are $50 for 1/8 of a page. (2/8 page =$100, and up etc.) Design them online, or attach photos and the script, and the yearbook staff will put them together. Examples below. Deadline to submit is April 16. Please reach out to Principal Land with any questions or issues.

 

Helpful tips:

1. They had implemented a due date of 4/15 not 4/16 so anything you tried in the past 24 hours would have failed.

2. There was a minor issue with a url that was causing issues too. If you still get 'stuck', try going to a higher level on site, i.e. start at yearbookforever.com and then search and find Burlingame Intermediate School from there vs. using a direct hotlink you may have seen in some PTA/BIS emails. Should work more consistently.

Hello 8th grade parent volunteers,

 

8th graders will kick off with the 8th grade dance on Saturday, June 7th at the Burlingame Community Center, and wrap up with the Promotion Ceremony on Thursday, June 12th from 2 to 4pm. To help make this a special week, we need volunteers to both lead and help out on the following committees and subcommittees listed below. Please complete the volunteer form here (even if you already indicated you would like to help on a previous form).

Hello and Happy New Year 8th grade parents!

 

Separately, we are starting to prepare for Promotion Week for our 8th graders.  If you are interested in being part of the planning committee please let us know by filling in this interest form. It’ll be a great way to get involved in making this a special week for your graduating middle schooler! Overview of promotion activities:

 

June 7(to be confirmed): 8th Grade dance @ the Burlingame Community Center

June 9: 8th Grade field trip to either Great America or Santa Cruz

June 10: Pizza, yearbook signing and promotion rundown

June 11: Promotion practice

June 12: 8th Grade Breakfast, Promotion practice and Promotion!  Last day of school.  

 

Lastly, as per the Yearbook teacher Ms. Bosnich, a lot of parents request too late to do a special message/Farewell for our 8th graders to include in the yearbook.  She isn’t seeing a lot from our grade this year compared to previous years and to let you know that the deadline is early April. Farewells are $50 for 1/8 of a page.
